PROCESS Instruments has been awarded a grant from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), to further develop its innovative instrumentation.
The company which is based in Burnley but operates worldwide provides instruments and service solutions to the water, paper and engineering industries.
All modern industrial instruments communicate to the outside world via a range of different outputs; such as digital alarms, 4-20mA outputs and serial connections. The NWDA awarded the company a micro-grant to research and implement communication advancements to its range of chlorine analysers.
With the help of the £16,290 grant, Process Instruments will add innovative extras to communication outputs, including TCP/IP and GSM/GPRS technology which means the instrument can text message the user when it is in alarm or needs attention. Work completed since the award of the grant means that the analysers can now be accessed remotely from any internet enabled PC without the use of specialist software.
Aitken Scientific, which custom builds software solutions, worked with Process Instruments in developing the products and further researching into communication protocols. Aitken Scientific’s help and advice was crucial in securing a completely successful development program.
Mike Riding, sales manager of Process Instruments said: “We are thrilled that the NWDA has recognised our pioneering work and this further funding means we can beat our competitors to providing cutting edge instrumentation to our target industries.
“We have invested a lot of time into producing a comprehensive business plan to make sure Process Instruments is at the forefront of innovative technology and with the financial boost from the NWDA we should achieve the goals we set out.”
The NWDA leads the economic development and regeneration of England's Northwest by supporting business growth and encouraging investment. It works with a cross section of industries to develop existing market places.
Mark Hughes, executive director of enterprise and skills at the NWDA said: “The NWDA is committed to supporting projects that are likely to contribute to the wider commercial potential of England’s Northwest. The grant provided will not only benefit Process Instruments as a business, but will enable the workforce to grow and develop, putting it at the forefront of a thriving technology sector in the Northwest.”
Process Instruments has also been awarded a UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTi) SMART Award and a DTi Knowledge Transfer Partnership for its work with the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). It has also recently recruited a new member of its UK Sales team to meet with the needs of its expanding client base which now includes EKA Chemicals, Scottish Water and the University of Sheffield.
